The best places to visit in Pokhara are Phewa Lake for boating and reflections of the Annapurna range, Sarangkot for sunrise over the Himalayas, the World Peace Pagoda for the finest view of the lake and city, Davis Falls and the adjoining Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, and Pumdikot for its 108-foot Shiva statue. Most sit within 30 minutes of Lakeside.
Pokhara is a lakeside city of roughly half a million people in Gandaki Province, about 200 km west of Kathmandu, and it is the main gateway to the Annapurna trekking region. It sits at around 820 metres above sea level, yet Annapurna I and Machhapuchhre rise to nearly 8,100 and 7,000 metres barely 30 kilometres to the north. That vertical compression is what makes the city unusual: you sit beside a warm subtropical lake and look directly at permanent snow.
